In 1999, Peter F. Drucker wrote what is now a classic article, Managing Oneself. Since reading it several years ago, I’ve found myself referencing it on numerous occasions. Conveniently, it sits within easy reach, on the bookshelf immediately behind my desk.

A few of the ideas that have stuck with me - more sentiments than specifics:

  1. Understanding who you are and what you value is critical to satisfaction and success.
  2. Focus on your strengths; don’t try to make strengths out of weaknesses (similar to the thesis of Strength Finders)
  3. Careers are long. You can also have multiple careers.
